Changing the password locally on the machine:
If you are using a Mac with OS 10.6 or earlier, or any Macbook Air with any OS, after changing your password with reset.cabrillo.edu, you should also change the password in the local settings on your computer.
This step only applies to OS 10.6 or earlier and Macbook Airs. If you are using Lion (10.7) or Mountain Lion (10.8) - it will break the login process.
If this step applies to you, after using https://reset.cabrillo.edu/ to change your password, then review these instructions:

How to securely share important files with temporary workersOccasionally, an office needs some temporary, part-time or student help working with College-related files. In the past, under the old Novell Network, this need was met by using "Generic" accounts such as U-BELA, or U-Assess, and allowing temp users access to the department's "O" drive. Because of our continuing need to improve security for business-related files we have restricted the use of the Generic accounts; they no longer are granted access to the department's "O" drive, but only to their individual "M" drive. In order to share files with temp or student workers using the "U-Generic" logins users must copy the files into the generic users "M" drive on the staff file server "SOL". Shortcuts to the Generic users "M" drives should be set up for you on all the O drives on the server. If you do not see the shortcuts contact the helpdesk to get access to your generic users "M" drive. |

About sharing files across the Cabrillo College networkWhen a user logs in to the Campus Network on a staff PC using their Staff-Domain login, they should automatically be "Mapped" to a number of Network Drives that securely hold their business related files: M: | Your "home drive" network drive folder (No Mp3's if you please). | O: | Your Division* folder, (Your department's folder will be inside this folder). This is Private to members of your Divison\Department Only. | P: | The Campus "Public" drive. Only department members can write files to their department's "Public" folder, but all staff users can read these files. | T: | The "T" or "7-Day-Temp" drive. Temporary storage, accessible by all users, all files are automatically deleted after 7 Days. |
In Addition, certain users may also see these Drives Mapped to their PC: I: | The Instruction "O" Drive, for Instructional Divisions and VP's Only. | N: | Folks working in more than one "Division" may have an "N" drive. | S: | The "S", or "Shared" drive. For special projects or Cross-Divisional file sharing. Access is by invitation only. |
*In this context, "Division" refers to either a "Component", such as President, Business Office, Student Services, Instruction, or a "Division", such as HASS, HWPEA, or BELA.
File Sharing Note: while we have file-sharing functionality through the use of the "S" dive, we encourage Cabrillo faculty and staff to use Google Drive (a.k.a. Google Docs) for any file sharing between Cabrillo employees. There are various benefits to doing so, the primary of which is the ability to share and view files from off-campus.
Attached below is a Word document with more detail regarding network drives. |

About Hawknet wireless
Cabrillo's IT department built HawkNet with the expectation of "Café-Level Support". Just like in your favorite internet café, wireless signal is provided and the rest is up to you.
Is this going to cost me anything?
No, Hawknet is a free service provided by Cabrillo College to its Staff and Students.
How do I get a login and password?
To sign up, go to the Library or CTC (1400 building in Aptos), or the CTC in Watsonville. If you are Faculty or Staff, simply use your email/network login username and password.
I see both hawknet and secure-hawknet. What's the difference?
Cabrillo offers two options for wireless access on our campuses:
- hawknet, an unsecure, open wireless network
- secure-hawknet, a secure, protected wireless network
Both networks supply a speedy connection, but secure-hawknet offers two benefits:
- An encrypted connection between your computer and our wireless access points
- Requires you to log in only once per semester, per device
Cabrillo's IT department highly recommends that you use secure-hawknet, if possible.
We have upgraded our network and you will need to reconfigure your device in order to connect to secure-hawknet.
- On your device forget the secure-hawknet wireless network if you have previously connected to it.
- Re-Add the secure-hawknet wireless network to your device, you will be prompted to trust a certificate.

Where is wireless available on Campus?
Wireless service is generally available across the Aptos, Scotts Valley, and Watsonville campuses. You might find spotty coverage in the parking lots or in some outdoor areas, but our campuses generally have wireless signal available in indoor locations. If you notice a location with poor coverage, please contact the Help Desk at x6392 and we will evaluate the possibility of adding a new Access Point.
What type of hardware do I need?
A wireless card or built-in wireless for your device that handles the 802.11b or 802.11g protocols. Many areas on campus also support the 802.11a protocol. Our newest buildings work with 802.11n, as well.
How do I configure my computer or other device to connect to secure-hawknet?
Using secure wireless requires you to make a few special settings on your computer or device. Afterward, you can continue to use secure-hawknet on our campuses with the settings you initially configured.
Configuration on some devices and operating systems is simple, with most configuration done automatically. Below are instructions to assist you, organized by device or platform type.
